Introducing a new series of audio conversations on design and interactive art forms - how they're made, how they're received and the tweaking that happens in between - by Barbara Strebel of Artcast.ch.
In this first edition, we feature Barbara's conversation with rAndom International, whose "Audience" installation of individually motivated mirrors was a highlight of the recent Design Miami / Basel show (see our review of the show - including of "Audience" - here). "Audience" consists of a hundred mirrors which are able to swivel independently in three dimensions, to present their faces in any direction. Each mirror is programmed with it's own personality and interacts with its environment in a different way. The fun comes when a passer-by comes along and the mirrors decide they are worthy of regard ...

Barbara Strebel initiated artcast.info, a podcast on culture and innovation in 2005. She initiates platforms and events on internet culture and net.art and, in the last ten years, has collected experiences in art related network communities. She did pioneer work for the net.art scene in Switzerland; the internationally connected pioneer was running a network point of thing.net (ISP / BBS) in Basel already in 1994. She studied Cultural Antropology and art history at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and audiovisual design at the Artschool of Basel, Switzerland.
