In 2008 the show boasted a total of 58 vehicle debuts – 44 worldwide and 14 from North America. The 2009 show promises to match this total. An anticipated 700,000 participants will attend, including hundreds of celebrities and almost 7,000 car-loving journalists from all over the world. The show is also an opportunity to raise money for charity and last year the total came to $6 million with great things expected once again this year.

A few changes are anticipated with a number of companies not exhibiting largely due to a tightening of belts related to the global economic downturn. General Motors Corp. has cancelled its annual fashion show called GM Style, but nevertheless plans to introduce three new vehicles at the show: the Buick LaCrosse, the Cadillac SRX and the Chevrolet Equinox. Toyota will be unveiling its third generation Prius as well as a new Lexus hybrid and Honda is launching Insight, its new hybrid vehicle.

And despite some cuts, there are still lots of interesting events going on with the AutoWeek Design Forum, EyeOn Design Awards and the Michelin Challenge Design, among others.
