“The future in view!” Differentiation through innovation and being prepared for coming trends and challenges are the sure way to continued commercial and competitive success. The slogan for the 2007 European Coatings Show is a clear mission statement on this: visitors to the exhibition can expect to discover the most innovative products and the next generation of technologies and solutions there.

Since its inception 15 years ago, the biennial European Coatings Show has grown steadily in size and reputation to become the leading international exhibition for the coatings, paints, printing inks, adhesives, sealants and construction chemicals industries, providing a platform for suppliers and trade visitors from around the world to meet, develop contacts and exchange information on the available products and services (covered are chemicals, raw materials, intermediates and formulated materials, equipment, machinery, consulting and software services). The very size of the show in fact guarantees new perspectives on the worldwide market and the opportunities therein.

Ciba® XYMARA™ will of course also be present at the European Coatings Show, presenting our wide world of visual surface effects – look out for us at the Ciba stand: Stand No. 650 in Hall 4! Here we will show our new effect pigments: Ciba® XYMARA™ Satin Black Pearl, a black with a unique satin sheen; a line of UV markers suitable for safety applications; and Ciba® XYMARA™ METASHEEN® "11 Series", a set of new additions to the Ciba® METASHEEN® range, that give a high dark chrome appearance. Ciba® XYMARA™ will also present new tools for achieving original designs and stylings, including a “mixed effects” guide, which provides information on combining effect and conventional pigments to achieve the desired results and new web-based tools and services designed to assist color communication throughout the value chain, such as the 3D PDF, which enables users to view an object from all angles, to share styling and design ideas as required, and to develop concepts together with other users – all online.

Also looking forward is the European Coatings Show’s congress program which, this year, is “Formulating the Future”. Streamlined this year from the previous six independent congresses into a consolidated whole, the Nürnberg Congress now offers a single event covering recent research and technology developments in the various coatings industries. Over 800 delegates from around the world are expected to attend 25 themed congress sessions with presentations by leading experts on all aspects of state-of-the-art material and process trends. Additionally, special focus sessions will single out the issues and challenges of tomorrow and work out potential solutions for them. REACH (Registration, Evaluation, and Authorization of Chemicals), the European Union’s new policy on chemicals will be examined and its impacts analyzed at one such session. Other sessions will focus on “new polymer and materials technologies (“Science Today, Coatings Tomorrow”), technology transfer and knowledge management

The sheer concentration of industry movers-and-shakers and technology pioneers at the European Coatings Show and the Nürnberg Congress is a draw in itself, offering a rare opportunity for attendees to meet and mingle, discuss and consult, and develop an extensive global network of contacts and partners across industry and technology. Everything about coatings, and all under one roof!
