In the words of Bill Moggridge, congress chair of the Connecting ’07 World Design Congress: “We are planning the design event of a lifetime. I promise you a program that will be lively and fun, as well as make you head hurt some of the time. Our location in the heart of San Francisco is spectacular, and the weather is lovely in October. Join us for an experience that you will remember forever.”
For many people, the above is enough of a recommendation to take an immediate decision. If not … read on! The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (icsid) turns 50 in 2007. For the last 22 years, icsid has held their biennial world design congress in collaboration with one of its member countries – the last in Scandinavia in 2005. This is the first time since 1985 that the congress is being held in the United States – not least because in the intervening years San Francisco has developed into a design center of world renown. The congress is taking place from October 17 to 20.
The theme of this year’s show and the subject of the international and regional sessions – as the congress name suggests – is connecting people and places, connecting virtual and visceral and connecting beauty and bounty. The four days of the congress will explore the implications of an increasingly connected world at a physical, virtual and cultural level. As always it will give people the opportunity to connect with other people from different backgrounds, cultures and disciplines for a rich exchange and a better understanding of how design communities connect the world over.
The Education Symposium is once again fully integrated into Connecting ’07 with a broad range of international experts providing thought-provoking content in a series of education, design and parallel sessions.
