This year, Tokyo Designer’s Week (October 31 – November 4) has taken as its theme Tokyo Love, with Tokyo representing the whole of contemporary culture in Japan. Two of the exhibitions going on during the week will be Blickfang Tokyo and 100% Design Tokyo. The shows came to Tokyo in 2006 and 2005 respectively and were an immediate success. This year they are expected to draw even more visitors.

Blickfang came to Japan last year with 40 designers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, who showed items of innovative furniture, fashion and jewelry. Blickfang is already very well known in Europe and has a particular focus on young designers. A total of 11,700 visitors from the Japanese press and public made their way to the exhibition and left very positive feedback.

Running in parallel to Blickfang is 100% Design Tokyo. In only two years, 100% Design Tokyo has already established itself as Japan’s premier contemporary interiors show. A British event that started in the King’s Road, London in 1995, it has grown exponentially and is now known for showing the latest and most innovative in contemporary interior products. The event, which is run by the Japanese Design Association and Reed Exhibitions, is an opportunity to meet and do business with a professional audience of architects and buyers. Last year it attracted almost 75,000 visitors.
Tokyo Design Week is being held in downtown Tokyo at Jingu Gaien Aoyama and has more square footage this year than ever. The best way to get a feel for the layout and event is to have a look at the short film ‘Tokyo Design Premio’.
