Happy New Year!
The Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, is upon us and is being happily celebrated by millions of people throughout the world. A multinational corporation, Ciba has offices all over the world, including Shanghai. Here, unusually strong snowstorms have brought a beautiful white blanket of snow for our colleagues to play in! And, like many a good designer when presented with a blank canvas and a new medium, they jumped right in to create beautiful and fun pieces of sculpted art (that’s “snow-men” to you and me)!
Our colleague, Gao Yu, reports:
From where I grew up, I am used to real snow in winter time. But it's unusual for such heavy snow in Shanghai, and the snow is covering 14 cities (including Shanghai) along the Yangzi River, where it is usually warm and seldom snows in winter.
Actually, things are more hectic than the refreshing photos we’ve taken here, as it is presently the time for people to return from their working lives in the cities to their home towns, according to New Year tradition. You can imagine how much of a rush we all are in!
Despite all this, we always look for joy in life, sometimes even in “child-like” ways (colleagues say we look young, but we are old enough)! In the area of Shanghai where we work, there is an artificial lake and a small garden which we can see from the office window. When we arrived at the office early one morning, we noticed the nice white view from the window and decided to “retain” it with our cameras.
Then we found some traditional snowmen in the garden as shown in the photos and even joined in and made our own …
What fun - especially as some of the colleagues were getting a chance to be creative with "Nordic" materials for the very first time!
