Ciba® XYMARA™ Marker Luminescent Pigments

XYMARA™ Markers are a range of inorganic UV-fluorescent pigments providing high-quality, high value added effects for a variety of end applications:

• Marking and Coding
• Process Control & Automation
• Printing Inks & Overprint Varnishes

The pigments are invisible once incorporated into an ink or varnish formula under natural light or standard artificial light sources. A strong luminescent color can be observed under a suitable UVlight source – standard activation wavelengths are 254 nm and 365 nm. The pigments are easy to disperse and should be used at typical color pigment concentrations in the ink or varnish.

XYMARA™ Markers find application in many types of inks and varnishes, especially screen inks, flexographic and gravure inks, both solvent and water-based formulas. The ink binder must be transparent at the UV wavelengths selected for detection. Typical graphic arts applications are for mid-range security requirements including product identification and labeling as well as automation and process control.

TLC is the second important application for these fluorescent pigments. They are used as fluorescent markers and are usually detected at 254 nm.
