| Dear Xymara Reader
Graphic design was our hot topic this past month. First off, we featured the designer Lars Contzen, who brings large format graphic design into interior décor. Then, we had an exclusive interview with the "king of graphic design", Stefan Sagmeisterq, who gave us an exhaustive view into his work and his world.
We still kept our focus on surfaces, though, with this month's Color Trend paper dedicating itself to trends in visual surface effects, as seen at the recent round of furniture shows worldwide (we also gave you more detailed views on the recent shows with our second Milan review and our review of New York's furniture week), while Weilburger Coatings presented their Color Trends for 2009 and we took a look at the latest cool surface for cars: carbon fiber panels.
This last story featured enabling technology from a brand-new additive from Ciba and, in fact, Ciba products were also elsewhere in the news: our Ciba® XYMARA™ Electra printable conductive ink, launched last year, won an award for outstanding achievement in technical development from IDTechEx. In addition - STOP THE PRESS! - we are pleased to inform you that our online design magazine, INMYX, having won the Gold iF communication design Award last year, has now been nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany (the 'Designpreis')! We'll bring you more news on this prestigious nomination very soon!

 | | The definition of an object's surface is one of the most important decisions during
the design process. In most cases, the designer will already need to confront the
question about the look of the outer surface during the ideation stage. Since the
prospective user's or onlooker's relationship with the product will be profoundly
influenced by the first, visual perception of its surface, it is imperative that the surface
sends a clear, easily accessible message...
