Please Spill Your Wine!

Reluctant to use your best linen tablecloth at your next dinner party? Do you always try to strategically place the fruit bowl over the stains left from your last celebration? The Paris designer Madeleine Montaigne has the answer. Her tablecloths add a happy end to the spills and drips that accompany a delicious meal.

A dribble of tomato sauce? A toppled glass of red wine? No problem. Because as the spills sink into the white of the material, beautiful patterns with floral and animal motifs magically appear. Of course, this kind of surprise may encourage more “accidents”, but it is precisely this for which the tablecloth was designed. Made of white cotton, the material is waterproofed in patterns, so that liquids only impregnate part of the material. Once washed at 95 ˚C. the tablecloth becomes as white as any other. This kind of hidden effect is typical of Montaigne’s objects. Although it is tempting to do away with laundering out these beautiful patterns, don’t deny your next group of dinner guests a surprise taste of food- and drink-friendly design!
