Three
Japanese designers
with different design backgrounds have joined forces to build incredibly beautiful furniture from incredibly
beautiful types of wood. The
Leif.designpark designers combine different types of
wood to accentuate the intensity of the individually stained wood tones and create wooden surfaces reminiscent
of traditional Japanese intarsia work. Their work thrives on the natural vibrancy of the wood grain.
Always on the look-out for these rare and high-quality surfaces, the three designers scour Tokyo’s timber
shops to find the most fantastic wood grains: "The unstained natural colors of wood result from
absorbing numerous nutrients within the soil. The diversity is amazing ..."
Leif.designpark
is actually a word play on “life” and “leaf” – which refererences their love of nature and wood. And
the trio use Leif.designpark to reach out to other likeminded designers and artists with whom they organize
joint exhibitions. Like the artist Shinichi Kaneko: "We think his works and feelings are good for
our space. There is a great interplay of our products and his art." And the collaborations within
Leif.designpark also result in new products, like the
Cobachi object ... or the
short film clip about the philosophy of Leif.designpark by Akira Okuda: "A virtual drawing board,
a park surrounded by a low hedge which can be accessed freely."
Leif.designpark
is a team based in Japan consisting of Takashi Ueno and Mamoru Naito and Keizaburo Honda. Founded just
one year ago, we can expect great things from them...
