When one first meets Shankar Barua, an artist, musician, writer and designer, he etches himself eternally into one’s memory as one of the most incredibly energetic and inspired people one has ever met – and kind and gentle, too. He has a clear and grand vision of what projects he wants to bring to life. Currently, this includes the organization and realization of the 3rd “Carnival of e-Creativity & Change-agents Conclave”, which will take place in Delhi in February 2008. The CeC & CaC is an event/festival organized by the Academy of Electronic Art, of which Shankar is the director, in cooperation with the India International Centre (IIC) in Delhi. It will feature screenings, performances, installations and interactions by participants from various backgrounds and countries, spread across several venues on the campus of the IIC. Much of the focus lies on electronic music and multimedia art. But what seems one of the most important aspects to Shankar - recently called “the wizard of e” by Time Out Magazine-Delhi - is how it enables both participants and presenters alike to interact freely among likeminded others, and the magic this creates, and how so many walk away from it forever changed.
This time around the CeC & CaC will also feature its first “fringe” event in form of an intensive electro-acoustic workshop, which will be fee-based with limited seating, and is therefore aimed at the more serious practitioners, aspirants and aficionados.
We all know third time’s a charm – in this case it is a jewel and well worth visiting!
CeC & CaC 2008 runs Friday, February 15 until Sunday 17, 2008 (Friday is partly closed-door).
