Celebrating Street Art the Wooster Collective Way

Do you want to find fresh stuff by street art superstar Bansky? The latest guerilla art supporting the democracy movement in Burma? Links to great artists like David Warnke and Miss Van and other cool sites, including an amazing stencil archive? Then set your browser to the Wooster Collective (www.woostercollective.com), a website featuring some of the best covert art in public space happening around the globe. “Dedicated to showcasing and celebrating ephemeral art placed on streets in cities around the world,” as its credo reads, the Wooster Collective is a platform for a truly amazing and truly global network of artists. Recent highlights include DO NOT ENTER signs altered with photorealistic touches by Dave Witz, art found on the streets of Gugulethu, South Africa, and the eye-catching video Paris by Light that shows masterful tags happening at the speed of light.

With a Wooster on Paper publication series and special editions, the collective is serious about street art. These folks are professionals! In addition to updating the site daily, the collective also takes to the road to meet up with its artists in places like London, Buenos Aires and Miami. Since their name comes from Wooster Street in Lower Manhattan, our guess is that they are based in New York. However, true to the most sacred codex of street art, they prefer to remain anonymous, and when INMYX wrote them with an interview request, there was no response except for a message on the site a few days later: “In the five years of updating this site each day, we have never disclosed the identity of an artist without their permission and understanding.” Respect, Wooster Collective. We don’t want to give anyone away. Just keep doing what you are doing: letting us know about what’s happening on the streets!
