How Iconic Packaging Can Turn “Y” Into an Answer

It is a fact that children learn more quickly and most profoundly by doing and actively engaging. It is also a fact that environmental awareness and health consciousness among children is not only a matter of “extracurricular knowledge”, but has become absolutely essential. There is also nothing bigger or more insatiable than a certain childish curiosity. Taking all of these facts into account, the Los Angeles-based company Y Water™ Inc., created a beverage concept for children that caters to all of the above.

The uniquely three-dimensional Y shape of the bottle and the company name, Y Water™, relate to the most pivotal of all children’s questions: Why? and Why not? In a nutshell, Y Water™ is a vitamin-infused children’s beverage that carries the descriptive names Bone Water, Immune Water and the like, as to leave no doubt what purpose the ingredients serve. These no-nonsense drinks come by way of iconic packaging designed by Yves Béhar that is not only 100% recyclable, but, moreover, reusable as a toy that fosters creativity and imagination. These symmetrical, brightly-colored, nine-ounce bottles are designed in a way that they can be linked to each other with the help of a biodegradable rubber band that serves as connector. There are no limits to the final shape of the creation, whether it be an animal or a robot ...

The innovative design of the bottle and its versatility put emphasis on the tendency of the way the face of eco-design and green technology is being redefined and constantly changing. Children are exposed to new ways of thinking in terms of the afterlife of everyday products they use. Simply throwing something away is just not an option anymore and, while recycling is not the only solution (and sometimes the most costly), reusing seems to be today’s answer – especially if it comes in the form of a stimulating, fun toy.
